Floor impact sound measurement is the measurement of a floor’s interceptive power. When a floor receives an impact or vibrations, these vibrations travel throughout the structure and are given off as solid borne transmission sounds. Our measurement process shows light weight impact sources such as high heel shoes and footsteps (tapping machine) as well as heavy weight impact sources such as a person jumping (bang machine).

Method of measuring floor impact sound
This measurement applies to JIS A1418 "Measurement of the floor impact sound interception performance in a building". The light floor impact source and the weight floor impact source are set up in the sound source room as shown in the figure below. Then, the floor is vibrated, and the sound level meter measures it by the receiving sound room plural point. The mean value of the receiving sound room energy is calculated and the floor impact sound performance is figured from the result of that measurement.
